I am sitting here watching the Bachelor reflecting on my day. I am so happy I am not on that show. I would seriously whip Michelle. She has clearly lost her mind. I like Emily.
Snowmageddon is headed to North Texas. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Sheesh! The weather people on TV make me laugh. I seriously think they get their viewers all riled up just to increase sales at the grocery stores. And they like to get kids all excited about the chance of no school. So, I may or may not have snow pictures to post soon.
Gary took Layla to her gymnastics class today while Hayden and I stayed home and hung out. He grabbed her right after school, so there really isn't much time to fix her hair from a long day at school. I don't know how, but her hair always looks a mess when she gets into the car. Does she roll around on the floor all day? I mean really? Anyway, he texted me that her hair was jacked up, but he doesn't know how to put her hair in a pony tail. WELL he does now!! He came home and practiced. IT was the sweetest thing ever! And he did a wonderful job! I'm glad he can do a pony tails now :)
Bogey ate some of Harley's adult dog food today. His stomach can not handle this. So I have been watching him like a hawk making sure he doesn't do his messy business on my floor. IT is so bad right now. I am so frustrated. I had to wash my favorite rug and after it washed I didn't even put it in the dryer. The bottom of the rug ruined in the machine and all the little grippy pieces fell off. Into the machine. Right after a diaper just did the same thing 2 days ago. So I threw the rug away...pooo!!! Literally.
And I just saw on the Bachelor...he picked Michelle first. He is cray-cray!!!!
I'm out...peace!!

Friday morning ramblings
Let me just start the random flow of nonsense with this: I am done with winter germs. I am ready for spring days filled with playing in the backyard. I need this khaki grass filling my front and backyard to be green again. I need to plant some flowers and hear the water sprinkler watering the lawn.
I feel like I can't keep the germs away. No matter how hard I try. We do take vitamins, but I honestly don't think it matters. I am a super stickler about hand washing. But we still get more boogers after clearing up boogers. Sheesh!
I do love the sun. And quite honestly I miss it, but I spent a great deal of time on Tuesday cleaning my house. Right now as I type this the sun is streaming in the window and making my house appear dusty. I think I need to close the blind.
I was 9 years old in fourth grade 25 years ago when the Challenger took off and then exploded. I will never forget that day. We only got to watch TV in our classrooms for a few minutes in the morning. Remember Channel 1? If not-- it was a brief educational program that played for about 5 minutes. We generally watched it to start our school day. This day 25 years ago the TV was on all day long. We couldn't believe what was happening as we sat glued to the news coverage.
Gary just informed me that he stayed home from school that day. He had a broken arm and missed school. He told me he laid on the couch watching the coverage. At first he thought it was a movie.
And now we are having a debate about Channel 1. He doesn't think Channel 1 was around back in 1986. I honestly thought we watched it every day back then. But my brain could be failing me.
Layla is too big for a night light in my opinion. But I still let her have one. She used to have a "Twilight" ladybug. It is broken. It is one of the best things ever. It has a timer, so it turns off during the night. It is perfect. But broken. So we have been trying out various night lights. The one we tried last night put a shadow on her desk chair. She said she didn't like the shadow...it made her feel like she was in jail. Huh? Cause you know all about jail at 5 years old.
Hayden set up his train set bright and early this morning while watching {surprise} Toy Story II. He was having a fun time until Bogey ran into the room and snatched up a piece of train track and ran off. I finally found him under my bed with splinters of the wooden track on the floor. While cleaning the mess I got a splinter in my pinkie finger. I bet he has splinters in his little puppy gums.
I love Chic-fil-a. I can't get enough of it. I like my chicken sandwich with extra pickles, mayo and ketchup. [just in case you want to grab one for me] The sandwich is so good. I wish I could eat that 410 calorie sandwich every day, but you know...our household budget and my calorie counter wouldn't like that...boooo!
Today for now we are all feeling good and it is supposed to be 70 degrees this afternoon. We need this high temperature day!!! I can't wait to play outside. Friday after school seems to be so hard for Layla after a long week. She is always so tired. Hopefully the fresh air will invigorate all of us.
In other news...so far I am loving the new little green steamer I posted about earlier this week. It is handy dandy!! It does a swell job.
This morning while checking my twitter feed I saw a tweet saying "if you need something to be grateful for check your pulse." I thought it was a great quote for today. I told Gary about it. He said, "I did check my pulse and it is too high, I'm about to have a stroke. I should make a doctor appointment." Well allrighty then. See what I have to put up with y'all!
BTW...his pulse is fine. I wonder why are children are so sarcastic sometimes. Gary and I are both a bit over the top in the sarcasm department. And yes I do realize the pictures I posted really don't go with the things I'm saying. I'm feeling random. :)
Happy Friday!

we had pie for dinner tonight
Tonight while I was making dinner, I saw some blueberries in the fridge. They needed to be used badly. While digging around I also found a pie crust. I really wanted blueberry cobbler. So I just kind of threw some stuff together. Thank goodness I did. The rest of the meal I cooked was HORRIBLE!
I baked chicken marinated in Lawry's Sundried Tomato marinade. I made brown rice and mixed vegetables. The chicken was so dry...yuck! I'm not sure why I ever waste my time baking chicken. I'm not good at it. The veggies were nasty. The brown rice was crunchy...so I guess I cooked it wrong also. Every once in awhile I'm allowed to mess up. All we could do is laugh.
Have you seen Christmas Vacation? Remember the way Clark was chewing the dry turkey that was over cooked. That was the scene at our house tonigh.
Hey...every once in awhile it is ok to eat pie for dinner :)
Blueberry Crispy Pie
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup flour
3/4 pint of blueberries
1-9 inch pie crust
Mix together butter and brown sugar. Add flour and then add oats.
Pour blueberries into the pie crust. Top with the oat/flour mixture.
Bake for 40 minutes.
Serve warm topped with whipped cream.

new toy for mommy
I wanted to buy a sewing with a gift card I got for Christmas. I have struggled with whether or not I would like to sew. I kept being so wishy washy about it. I think that means I shouldn't get one.
Since getting Bogey, the puppy, I decided on something more practical. I am so happy with my purchase. This or a sewing machine would each be work. But knowing that a new puppy has accidents and I have a quick and easy way to clean up messes....that makes me happy! This little machine is so cool and super easy to use. I really wanted a smaller 'dustbuster' handheld spot steam cleaner, but I couldn't find one in the store. I wanted it NOW, so I decided to try this green machine!
I used it today for the first time and I am loving it! I can't wait to use it again. I know I am a DORK!!
I feel better about my house though. While Layla was at school, Hayden watched Toy Story I and Toy Story II. And I cleaned and did laundry. There is nothing more awesome to me than a clean house. I can't wait to sit down tonight after the kids go to bed and rest. Whew!

this and that
We had a fun, somewhat low key weekend here in our household.
Gary's birthday was Saturday, and so we ventured out for dinner and drinks with Ashley and Aaron. Aaron's birthday is today, so we celebrated both guy's birthdays. We had such a fun time. We all four laughed so hard. We are all really funny people and when the four of us get together it is always a fun time. In case you don't know I met Ashley though twitter. I think it is so cool that I now have an awesome friend and I can say I met her through the internet. Thankfully our husbands get along great. They are both good ole country boys each with a healthy dose of humorous sarcasm.
This is the only picture we took. A blurry picture of Ashley and I at Papasitos.
The food was so yummy!!
******
Other than that we stayed around the house. The kids were both battling a bit of congestion. Layla was coughing and Hayden was so stuffy...he was talking through his nose for sure. He even has a touch of fever, so we pretty much kept them inside for the weekend. They were plenty busy though....
We named our new family member....
His name is Bogey!
He is every bit as crazy as he looks. He is into everything. He has potty training issues. We are crate training him and he gets a bit cranky at night when he is tired of being in the crate. He didn't eat for the first few days he lived with us. Now he eats everything we serve him...puppy food only, but this morning he enjoyed a breakfast bar that Hayden was holding a little to low. So it is safe to say he is perfectly comfortable in his new home.
Getting two kids ready in the morning with a 3 month old puppy running around is an experience. He runs off with socks and shoes and shirts. I'm quite certain I will be just fine today if I skip my workout because I chased his fast little body all around this house this morning.
Harley doesn't particularly care for him. She growls at him all the time. He can't even get two inches from her without her loosing her mind. They kind of look alike don't ya think?
In the picture below...can you tell he is about to mess with her?
If we had videoed that...you could hear a non stop growl.
Thank goodness Gary was there to mediate.
Y'all it is so bad...Harley won't even drink from the same water bowl. I wish I were joking. We caught her 4 times drinking from the toilet. Seriously...I don't understand. One day there will be peace and harmony in our house....haha! I doubt that, but we still have fun. Oh and yes, Harley has always been a grouch. She really and truly is a female dog...she growled and barked at poor Callaway all the time. The kids can't touch her without her being rude. We are used to her drama.
This picture of Layla and Bogey is terrible, but I wanted to show the crate.
If you want to know how not to crate a dog...
Bogey got out of this soft crate many times. He also caved it in onto his head. He disliked it so much that he would only go inside to potty. Seriously I was loosing my mind for a day or two. I didn't really want an eyesore of a metal cage in our living room, but we had to get one. I wanted something we could easily move from our bedroom to the living room. But I'm telling you right now...the ugly cage is amazing. The second he saw it he went in and laid right down. He was loving it. And so were Gary and I. Saturday night in the soft crate he screamed for 3 hours. NON STOP. Last night he did great in his new metal cage.
The kids love their new buddy. Layla carries him all around. Hayden chases him all around. You should hear Hayden say Bogey...it is so cute! I don't have any pictures of Hayden and Bogey alone. They are constantly running. Layla didn't want to go to school today, she wanted to stay home and play with the puppy!
Here we are...3 boys and 3 girls again.
No dog will ever replace Callaway, but Bogey will add a bit of spunk to our family dynamic.

Y'all are gonna love me for sharing this
I know I have said so many times...I love twitter and my twitter friends. Twitter is a wonderful outlet for me as a stay at home mom. Anytime I need to vent or get advice I jump on twitter :)
Around dinner time everyone starts to tweet what is on the menu for the night at their house. It is fun to hear, and you know me...I love cooking and food, so if I hear something that sounds good...I get all kinds of nosey and find the recipe!!
Hillary and Ashley tweeted about a yummy chicken crock pot dish. Once I heard about it, and how good it was, I knew I had to make it. So, I jumped on over to Ashley's food blog, and she posted the recipe there.
Amazing slow cooker chicken
4 Boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese
1/2 stick of butter
1 package Italian seasoning
Throw all the ingredients into the crock pot and cook on low for 4-5 hours.
Oh So Good and how easy does that sound?
Gary said it is the BEST chicken recipe he has had in a long time and I have to agree with him.

bubbles go bye-bye
Every chance we get we let the kids play outside. Those play times have been few and far between lately due to the cold weather. Hayden was digging around in the pantry one day and asked to blow bubbles. It was a brand spanking new container of bubbles left over from last summer.
I thought it sounded like a fun idea since we have been cooped up in the house for days.
I turned my back for 2.5 seconds.
I am quite sure he rolled in the bubbles like a dog. Plus the ground was a bit wet from the melting snow.
"What happened to my bubbles?"
Dude...I'm pretty sure as hard as you try you aren't going to get any more out of that container. It is empty and I don't think we blew a single bubble.
Wanna see a close up of the bubbles and dry icky grass stuck to his back?
We are just living the life y'all....good times!!
